Abstract

Supervision and psychotherapy are seen as different but very closely connected disciplines. To understand the meaning of supervision it is necessary to understand the context of supervision and nature of psychotherapy it supports. Many definitions of supervision processes stress different aspects of supervision depending on theoretical frame and psychotherapeutic background of their authors. Some stress the importance of supervision alliance, some educative or didactic goals, some welfare of clients, some professional improvement of therapist or idea that supervision is metatherapy. Relation between supervision and psychotherapy is complex and it mainly depends on the level of development of the role of psychotherapist. Research that proves that connection is presented as an example of difficulties in conducting such researches and importance of proving theoretical assumptions.
