THE EURO – TWENTY YEARS LATER

Abstract

On January 1, 2022, the single currency of the European Union - the euro -
marked twenty years of its existence. Since the Roman Empire, there has
been neither single currency in the world, nor the decision to switch to a
single currency within the European Union. There has also not been the
case of giving the new currency - the euro - the function of legal means of
payment in countries that have acquired the conditions for monetary union.
This initiative was a gambling project, which some experts call an
experiment that was approached in the absence of theoretical foundations
for the creation of a single currency area and with great scepticism of
experts in the world.
