This text discusses the awareness of students about university sports. The aim of the survey was to demonstrate the level of awareness of students about university sports in the Republic of Serbia. In this scientific research the method of survey by questionnaires was used in the field of students’ awareness about the organization and functioning of university sports and about the motives for recreational exercise. The research was conducted at the Alpha University of Belgrade, at the University of Belgrade and at the University of Prishtina. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that students are not sufficiently informed about the organization and functioning of university sports and that they practice sport very little, due to lack of motivation and objective circumstances relating to poor organization and lack of funding for sports competitions. Propagation of university sport, with adequate financial resources, is a very simple task, but it is far more complex to achieve improvement of university sports in the times of economic crisis.
